Sobriety Checkpoint – June 18, 2016, New Hampton

On the evening of Saturday, June 18, 2016 and into Sunday, June 19, 2016, from the hours of 10:00 PM through 2:00 AM, the New Hampshire State Police in conjunction with the New Hampton Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Rt. 104 in New Hampton in the area of the Rt. 104 Diner. This checkpoint was conducted pursuant to an order which was made by Justice James O'Neill III of the Belknap County Superior Court on May 23, 2016. The order was issued in response to an application by the New Hampshire State Police to perform the checkpoint as an efficient means to deter and apprehend impaired motorists.

A total of 398 vehicles were stopped and screened, resulting in the following arrests made for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs:

Jaimie Kierstead, age 48, Dublin, NH
Diane Nickerson, age 49, Rockland, MA
Jeffrey Lavoie, age 39, Sanbornton, NH

The following arrests were made for Transporting/Possession of drugs:

Kathy Kelty, age 34, Berlin, VT
Stephen Kelty, age 32, Barre VT
Kollin Witham, age 19, Barre, VT

There was one arrest made for Transportation of Alcoholic Beverages by a Minor:

Benjamin Evans, age 19, Barre, VT

All arrests were made without incident and the subjects arrested for the offense of Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol were released on bail with a court date of June 27, 2014 in the 4th Circuit-District Division-Laconia Court. All other arrests were released on bail with a court date of August 25, 2016 in the 4th Circuit-District Division-Laconia Court.

The New Hampshire State Police is committed to taking an aggressive stance in utilizing Sobriety Checkpoints as a tool to deter and arrest intoxicated drivers. New Hampshire has some of the most aggressive laws in the country to fight the intoxicated driver and we are dedicated to using those tools to ensure safe travel throughout the state.
