Boat Fire, South of Portsmouth Harbor

On Sunday, June 19, 2016 at approximately 10:55 AM, New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol officers responded to a call reporting heavy black smoke emanating from a vessel just south of Portsmouth Harbor. New Hampshire Fish and Game also responded and arrived first on scene a few minutes later. Upon arrival, they observed two people in the water hanging onto a line that was tied to the boat. Fish and Game personnel were able to retrieve them from the water. The 30-foot fishing boat was engulfed in flames.

The Portsmouth Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire shortly thereafter. It was ultimately towed to Portsmouth Harbor. Additional assisting agencies included the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the Kittery (ME) Harbor Master. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
