Cruiser Accident, Everett Turnpike Nashua

On Saturday May 28, 2016, at approximately 10:00 AM, Trooper Mark Dore of the New Hampshire State Police Troop B Barracks stopped to assist Rachel Lessard age 47 of Nashua New Hampshire when her vehicle, described as a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran out of fuel and became disabled on the Everett Turnpike northbound just prior to the exit 5A off-ramp. Trooper Dore had pulled in behind Lessard, activated his emergency lights and started to assist with pouring fuel into Lessard's vehicle.

As Trooper Dore and Lessard worked on the vehicle, Carolyn Mulrooney age 79 of Nashua drove her 2011 Toyota Avalon into the rear end of Trooper Dore's fully marked State Police Cruiser with emergency lights activated. The cruiser was pushed forward into the back of the Jeep in the same vicinity where Trooper Dore was standing just seconds before the crash. Trooper Dore and Rachel Lessard were not injured in the crash. Mulrooney was transported to Saint Joseph's Hospital and treated for minor injuries. Mulrooney was also cited for the Move Over Law-Motorist Duties When Approaching Highway Emergencies.

Motorist should be reminded that when they are approaching highway emergencies, or incidents involving a fire, collision, disaster, or other emergency resulting in partial or complete blockage of a highway, or where a Police Officer is conducting a traffic stop, they should maintain a reduced speed, obey the directions of any authorized person directing traffic, vacate as soon as possible any lane wholly or partially blocked, and give a wide berth, without endangering oncoming traffic.

Assisting at the crash was personnel from the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and members of the Nashua Fire and Police Departments.
