Bridge Closure, Route 1 Bypass – Sarah Long Bridge

On April 27, 2015 at approximately 5:33a.m., Troopers assigned to the New Hampshire State Police-Troop A barracks were called to several motor vehicle accidents on the Sarah Long Bridge in the City of Portsmouth, NH. Upon arrival, the responding Troopers determined that the bridge was covered in black ice. At 6:06 a.m. the Sarah Long Bridge was closed to vehicular traffic. The New Hampshire Department of Transportation was requested by the responding Troopers. The Sarah Long Bridge was re-opened to traffic at 6:38 a.m.

Troopers also responded to several motor vehicle accidents on the Piscataqua River Bridge during this time frame. There were no road or lane closures that affected this bridge.

All of the accidents were minor in nature and did not result in any personal injury.

The New Hampshire State Police were assisted by the Portsmouth Police Department, the Kittery, ME Police Department, the Maine State Police, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
