Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident, Ocean Road, Greenland

On Friday, April 22, 2016, at approximately 2348 hours, members of the Greenland Police Department responded to the area of 48 Ocean Road for a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, officers located the vehicle fully engulfed in the middle of Ocean Road. It was quickly determined that the vehicle had collided with a tree on the north side of the roadway prior to catching fire. Once the fire was extinguished, Greenland Fire personnel located an unidentified body in the front seat. Troopers from New Hampshire State Police Troop A and the New Hampshire State Police C.A.R. Unit were requested to assist with the investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a black 2010 Dodge Avenger being driven by the unidentified driver was traveling in a westerly direction on Ocean Road. For reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a large tree on the north side of the roadway. The vehicle came to final rest in front of number 48 Ocean Road, and became engulfed in flames. The unidentified driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ocean Road was closed in the area of the crash for approximately four hours as troopers conducted their investigation and the vehicle was removed from the scene.

Assisting on scene were members of the Greenland Police Department, and the Greenland Fire Department.

This crash remains under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police Troop A, and the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit (C.A.R. Unit). Anyone with further information related to this crash is asked to contact Trooper Brian Gacek at 603-223-8490 or by email at brian.gacek@dos.nh.gov.
