Traffic Accident & Interstate 93 Closure

On Monday, March 7, 2016, at approximately 10:49 AM, a white 2002 Nissan Sentra operated by Matthew Torbin, 21 years old from Derry, New Hampshire, was entering onto I- 93 South from the Exit 2 on-ramp in Salem, New Hampshire. As Torbin entered onto the Interstate, his car impacted the passenger side of a white 2012 Freightliner Flatbed truck operated by John Pothier, 57 years old, of North Billerica, Massachusetts. Pothier lost control of his Truck from the impact and rolled over across 4 lanes of travel.

Salem Fire and Rescue were first on scene and had to extricate Torbin from his vehicle as a result of the crash. Both operators were transported to Lawrence General Hospital to be treated for injuries. Torbin suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries and Pothier was treated for a minor head injury.

The Interstate in this area was shut down for approximately 2 hours and traffic was rerouted off Exit 2 while crews worked to re-open the interstate. Members of New Hampshire State Police - Troop B, Salem Police, Salem Fire and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation personnel assisted on scene.
