Motor Vehicle Collision

On Saturday January 30, 2016 at approximately 1918 hours, troopers from the New Hampshire State Police along with members of the Peterborough and Jaffrey Police and Fire Departments responded to Route 202 in the area of the town line between Jaffrey and Peterborough in the Town of Peterborough for a reported three-car motor vehicle collision.

The investigation revealed that Leonard Gonthier, age 54, Jaffrey, NH, was operating a motor vehicle described as a 2001 GMC Jimmy.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound when it swerved into the westbound lane, side-swiped a second vehicle identified as a:2003 Ford Explorer causing the Explorer to rollover and come to rest in the middle of the roadway. This vehicle was operated by Cameron Vetter, age 19, Rindge, NH.

There was also a passenger in the Ford Explorer identified as a Karlee Daub, age 18, Rindge, NH.

The GMC Jimmy continued eastbound in the westbound lane and then collided head-on with another vehicle identified as a 2012 Subaru Impreza operated by Reed J. Leger, age 32, Merrimack, NH, which resulted in the GMC Jimmy coming to final rest off the westbound shoulder up against a guardrail and the Subaru Impreza in the westbound breakdown lane.

Vetter and Daubsuffered minor injuries from the collision and were treated and released from Monadnock Community Hospital. Leger suffered more serious injuries but was also treated and released from Monadnock Community Hospital. After being extricated from his vehicle, Gonthier was transported to Monadnock Community Hospital for potential serious injuries that were unspecified at this time. After his arrival at said hospital, Gonthier was then air-lifted to UMASS Medical Center-Worcester for possible life-threatening injuries.

Gonthier was arrested for Agg. DWI. He was unable to be fully processed due to his injuries.

This case is still under investigation.
