Motor Vehicle Pursuit

On January 24, 2016 at approximately 0056 hours, Trooper George Sanborn of the New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A, was driving eastbound in lane #2 of Route 101 in the area of the weigh station in Epping. At this time he was passed by a black 2012 Acura TSX traveling well in excess of 100 mph. Based on his observations, Trooper Sanborn attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop. The driver of the suspect vehicle refused to stop, and a motor vehicle pursuit was initiated.

As the pursuit continued eastbound, the driver took Exit 9 at approximately 130 mph. The driver failed to negotiate the right hand turn at the top of the ramp, and struck the concrete island separating the east and westbound lanes of Route 27. Upon striking the island, the vehicle went airborne across the westbound lane, and struck the guardrail. The vehicle then continued approximately 100 feet down the grass embankment, where it came to final rest. The driver was taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Kenneth Coogan, age 29 of Amesbury, MA.

Coogan was transported to the Exeter Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Coogan is being charged with DWI (subsequent offense), Reckless Conduct, Reckless Operation, and Disobeying a Police Officer. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to contact Trooper George Sanborn, New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A, at (603) 223-8532.

New Hampshire State Police, Troop-A personnel were assisted at the scene by the Exeter Police Department, the Exeter Fire Department, and the North Hampton Fire Department. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Al's Automotive of Exeter.
