Firefighter III: Swiftwater Rescue Technician
Description: Upon certification of Swiftwater Rescue Level II and Firefighter III: Rope Rescue Technician, the candidate will be certified as Firefighter III: Swiftwater Rescue Technician.

NHFA Firefighter III Confined Space Rescue Technician Student Manual
Hours: 24
Description: Designed for fire personnel who encounter confined space rescues as part of their responsibilities, Confined Space Rescue Technician is an intense 24 hour program featuring a combination of classroom and practical evolutions. This course will provide the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely and legally mitigate a confined space emergency. This course meets the training objectives of NFPA 1006 and/or 1670, Chapter 7, to the Technician level. This course covers topics such as Rescuer and team safety, pre-planning, supplied air breathing systems, atmospheric monitoring, communications systems, personal protective equipment, patient packaging and recovery, lock-out tag-out and rope systems for confined space access and egress.
Dress Code: Department Uniform

Firefighter III: Ice Rescue Technician

Description: Ice Rescue Technician is an intense sixteen-hour program featuring a combination of classroom and practical evolutions, held in the classroom as well as on ice and in the water. Course covers awareness, Operations, and Technician level skills to provide students with knowledge and skills necessary to safely mitigate an ice rescue incident. Students will be challenged both mentally and physically to complete the objectives and scenarios. This course is designed to meet objectives of NFPA 106 and/or 1670, Chapter 9, to the Technician Level. The course covers topics such as rescuer and team safety, pre-planning, personal protective equipment, patient packaging and recovery, self-rescue, and operation specialized equipment.
Dress Code: Warm clothes that fit under Rescue PPE (see "Equipment")

Firefighter III: Trench Rescue Technician

Textbook: Trench Rescue Manual and Workbook, 2nd Edition

Description: Designed for fire and rescue personnel who may encounter trench rescues as part of their responsibilities, Trench Rescue Technician is an intense, hands-on, 32 hour program featuring a combination of classroom and practical evolutions. This course will provide the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely and legally mitigate a trench collapse or excavation emergency. This course meets the training objectives of NFPA 1006 and/or 1670, Chapter 11, to the Technician Level. The course covers topics such as rescuer and team safety, preplanning, equipment selection, atmospheric monitoring, personal protective equipment, patient packaging and recovery, OSHA regulations addressing trenches and excavations, assessing soil composition and stability, stabilization and shoring using heavy timber and pneumatic shoring equipment and emergency shoring of straight, "L', "T", and deep (12'-16') trenches.

Rope Rescue Operations

Description: Rope Rescue - Operations is an intense five-day program featuring a combination of classroom and practical evolutions combined with real life scenarios. This course will provide the knowledge and practical skills necessary to safely and legally mitigate a rescue involving rope work whether low or high angle. Students will be challenged both mentally and physically to complete the objectives and scenarios.
Designed to meet objectives of NFPA 1006 and/or 1670, Chapter 6, to the Operations Level.
Topics include team and rescuer safety, personal protective equimpment, rope rescue fundamentals, equipment selection, inspection and maintenance, knots, anchors, patient packaging, mechanical advantage systems, belaying, rappelling, raising and lowering systems, system safety factors, litter rigging and tending, pick-offs, low-angle and high-angle rescue techniques, and stretcher evacuations.

Students will be challenged both mentally and physically to complete the objectives and scenarios.
Designed to meet objectives of NFPA 1006 and/or 1670, Chapter 6, to the Technician Level.
Topics include team and rescue safety, personal protective equipment, rope rescue fundamentals, equipment selection, inspection and maintenance, belaying techniques, system safety factor testing and demonstration tests, patient packaging, belaying, rappelling, raising and lowering systems, knot passing on raising, lowering, and rappelling systems, litter rigging and tending, load distributing and load sharing anchor systems, simple, compound and complex mechanical advantage systems, manufactured and improvised artificial high anchor points, high lines, guiding lines, advanced litter handling techniques
