The US Fire Administration has published a guide for security precautions based on the Homeland Security color-coded threat levels.

US DOT Office of Hazardous Material Safety site - complete Emergency Response Guidebook available in PDF. Site also provides a searchable database for specific materials by name or identification number, lists contacts information and more. Guidebook available in Spanish version on this site.

Monkeypox Disease Status (7/15/03)
The US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) advises that Monkeypox is a rare viral disease caused by the Monkeypox virus which belongs to the orthopoxvirus group of viruses. In June 2003 monkeypox was reported in prairie dogs and humans in the US. The handling of infected pet prairie dogs primarily spreads the disease. Federal authorities have imposed sale, transport and release restrictions on prairie dogs and certain types of rodents. Current CDC research indicates that prolonged handling of infected animals is the primary cause for disease spread to humans. Current information is available at the CDC Web site.
