One Occupant Perishes in Laconia Apartment Fire
CONCORD, NH – New Hampshire State Fire Marshal J.William Degnan and Laconia Fire Chief Ken Erickson announce that a fire in Laconia has claimed the life of one occupant. The 911 call was received at the NH Statewide Enhanced 911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) at 1043 pm reporting a fire at 66 Davis Place in Laconia. Upon arrival police and fire crews found a well involved structure fire engulfing the first and second story of two of the six apartment units in the building.
Due to the type of building construction and development of the fire, crews attempting to gain entry to make rescues were driven back by the heat. The four alarm fire quickly went to an all defensive operation. Old style balloon-frame construction and a common "cockloft" style attic space created many hidden voids for the fire to travel freely.
Unfortunately, one occupant was unable to escape and died in the fire. His identification is being withheld pending completion of an autopsy by the Chief Medical Examiner's Office. The investigation being conducted by the NH State Fire Marshal's Office in conjunction with the Laconia Fire and Police Departments is on-going. All six apartment units were affected by the fire and those occupants were displaced by the fire.
