The Bureau of Building Safety and Construction is responsible for administering a wide variety of codes and standards. Programs and Sections
State Building Permit System
The bureau issues building, electrical, mechanical (fuel gas), plumbing and fire protection permits, performs inspections and issues certificates of occupancies for all state owned construction projects, university system and community college system projects and upon written request of a local municipality that has not adopted an enforcement mechanism pursuant to RSA 674:51.
Engineering & Plan Review
The NH State Fire Marshal’s Office is charged by statute with ensuring
compliance with the NH State Fire Code and the NH State Building Code through
the review and approval of plans prior to construction in the following types of
projects:
- State owned property (not leased or rented by the State of NH).
- NH University System and NH Community College System.
- Educational Occupancies and Healthcare occupancies.
Modular Building Program
The Modular Building Program was established in conjunction with various modular building manufacturers, third party inspection agencies, local and state code enforcement officials.
School Safety
The NH State Fire Marshal's Office administers the statewide school inspection program and provides plan reviews for public school construction.
Tramway & Amusement Ride Safety
The Tramway and Amusement Ride Safety section is administratively attached to the Division of Fire Safety. This section was established to oversee the safe and enjoyable use of the State's ski industry resources. Additionally, it ensures compliance with safety regulations for the carnival and amusement ride operators in New Hampshire.
