The New School Year Brings Buses to New Hampshire Roadways

Concord NH -The New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles, in conjunction with the New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety, would like to remind the motoring public that it is the time of year when school buses are taking to the road.

In an effort to keep children safe at school bus stops and on board of a school bus, please keep in mind the following:

  • When approaching a school bus that has its flashing red lights on, you must not pass the bus in either direction. This includes multi-lane roads that lack a center divider. Please stop at least 25 feet from the bus. Children could be entering or exiting the bus and getting to/from the bus from either side of the road.
  • Please be aware of children waiting for their bus at their neighborhood school bus stop. There is often increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic near these stops.
  • Instruct your child to wait for the bus driver to signal when it is safe to cross the roadway. The school bus driver is always vigilant to the vehicles around the school bus and will ensure your child only crosses when it is safest to do so.

Help contribute to the safe transportation of our children. Don’t drive distracted.
