The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps many households every winter.
The NH Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program has received annual funding from the US Department of Energy for over 30 years to provide weatherization services to income-qualified households.
The weatherization process begins with an energy auditor inspecting and testing a home and its appliances to determine if improvements can be made to save money on electric and fuel expenses. If improvements are found to be cost-effective, an installation crew provides the insulation, air sealing, and mechanical improvements which will reduce household energy expenditures and increase the comfort, safety, and health of the occupants of the home.
Due to funding limitations, there is currently a higher demand for weatherization services than can be met.
New Hampshire’s federally funded weatherization program has reached about 200 homes per year in recent years. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) invested millions of additional dollars in residential energy efficiency during 2008, 2009, and 2010. Approximately 31,000 New Hampshire households remain eligible for weatherization and fuel assistance.
