Programs and Initiatives

The state continues to make strides toward increasing our energy efficiency, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels, and securing our energy future.

Better Buildings Program

With $10 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Better Buildings Neighborhood Program, the NH Better Buildings program was established as an initiative to achieve transformative energy savings and reductions in fossil fuel use and greenhouse gases through deep energy retrofits and complementary sustainable energy solutions.

Biomass Study

Pursuant to NH Chaptered Law 156:228 (2017), the Office of Strategic Initiatives has completed the study on the economic viability of electric renewable portfolio standard Class III biomass electric generation resources in New Hampshire.

The Electric Assistance Program can help income eligible customers pay their electric bills.

Site Evaluation Committee Study (SB99)

One of two major pieces of legislation passed in the 2013 session that relate to OSI; this bill directs OSI to undertake a study of New Hampshire's energy facility siting process.

State Energy Program

This US Department of Energy program provides financial and technical assistance to states through formula and competitive grants. A number of New Hampshire's energy programs fall within this grant.

State Energy Strategy (SB191)

The second major piece of legislation, this bill created an Energy Advisory Council whose directive is to develop an energy strategy for the state.

State Government Energy Committee

An interagency working group focused on saving energy within New Hampshire State Government.

Volkswagen Settlement

New Hampshire's allocation of the environmental mitigation trust is approximately $30.9 million.

Weatherization Assistance Program

This federally-funded program provides weatherization assistance to low-income households.
