NH Department of Corrections K9 Team Keeping the Public Safe

(Concord, NH) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announced that August 2017 was an active month for the DOC K9 Team of Ryker and Dutch. They handled 43 calls for service at State Correctional Facilities and at the homes of individuals under supervision of Probation and Parole.

The team worked with DOC Probation/Parole Officers, local Police Departments, and the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms to sniff out cocaine, marijuana, Suboxone, Fentanyl, bath salts, drug paraphernalia, weapons and ammunition during visits conducted at the homes of individuals under Probation or Parole supervision in Hooksett, Manchester, Gilford, Claremont, and Newport.

A search of the Calumet Transitional Housing Unit in Manchester yielded a cell phone and several white pills in the possession of one of the residents.

The K-9 Team also patrolled the visiting room at the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord to deter illicit drugs from entering the facility.

The K9 team joined the Department in December 2016 and completed specialized training. They helped the Department recover drugs in prison mailrooms, visiting room locker area, housing units, and at the homes of individuals on probation and parole.
