New Hampshire Corrections Academy Concludes with Graduation Ceremony

(Concord, N.H) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announces that the 104th Corrections Academy class graduated from the pre-service training at a ceremony held at the Arthur D. Kehas Law Enforcement Training Center at the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Council facility. It was the largest class of newly hired employees in two years. The event occurred April 14, 2017.

The mandatory nine week academy provides the new employees with the tools and resources needed to work in a correctional environment. There were 28 new Corrections Officer Trainees and two Probation/Parole Officers in the graduating class. They will be assigned to the Department’s prison facilities and District Offices around the state.

Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn welcomed the graduates to the team and encouraged them to take advantage of all growth opportunities that are available to them within the DOC.

The Corrections Academy was a combination of classroom lecture and hands-on training. The employees received training in offender management, inter-personal communication, emergency preparedness, The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), CPR, basic New Hampshire law, health and fitness, drug identification, medication principles, and a variety of other skills. They were certified in firearms, defensive tactics and in the proper use of oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray). They resolved a series of scenarios to simulate the unpredictable challenges that they will face daily behind prison walls.
