Pink Pumpkins Grown for Breast Cancer Research
(Goffstown, NH) The New Hampshire Correctional facility for Women's Garden Club planted a special breed of pink pumpkins earlier this season. The pumpkins were picked this week and will be sold to raise money for the American Cancer Society in conjunction with the annual Making Strides for Breast Cancer Walk that will happen later this year. Volunteers from the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension Service assisted the inmates in growing the hybrid pumpkins and despite the drought and tough growing season there was a harvest. Last year the pumpkins riased $140.00 in proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society.
