Department of Corrections Pre-Service Training Academy Begins

(Concord, N.H) The New Hampshire Department of Corrections announces that the 103rd New Hampshire Corrections Academy begins on Monday, June 13, 2016. A total of 14 newly hired Corrections Officer Trainees are participating in the nine-week pre-service Corrections Academy held at the Arthur D. Kehas Law Enforcement Training Center at the NH Police Standards and Training Council in Concord.

The Corrections Academy utilizes a combination of classroom lectures, hands-on training and simulated scenarios to prepare the employees to work in the specialized correctional environment each day.

The employees will participate in a daily physical fitness exercise followed by classroom lectures on topics including offender management, offender classification, cross-gender supervision, investigations, New Hampshire law, communication, medical and mental health services, the Prison Rape Elimination Act, sexual harassment, suicide prevention, fire safety, radio procedures, report writing, search techniques and defensive tactics. All staff will be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the use of firearms, Oleoresin Capsicum (pepper spray), and use of batons.

Upon graduation the employees will report to their assignments at the Department’s correctional facilities in Concord, Goffstown, and Berlin. The graduation ceremony will be August 12, 2016.
