Inmates to Participate in the Annual Breast Cancer Walk
(Goffstown, NH) Female Offenders at the New Hampshire Correctional Facility for Women will participate in the annual American Cancer Society’s “Making Strides against Breast Cancer” walk on Thursday, October 8, 2015.
The inmates will walk around the recreational yard 34 times, which is the equivalent of five miles. In the past 70 to 80 inmates have walked in the fundraiser. It begins at 1:00 pm.
This is the ninth year in a row the inmates have participated in this event. Several DOC employees are volunteering to help organize the event and are expected to join the event. In 2014 the inmates raised $441.00 for breast cancer research.
This year the inmates also grew 15 specially bred pink pumpkins with the assistance of volunteers from the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension Service. They sold those pumpkins through the Amherst Garden Club with the $140.00 in proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society.
The annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is a non-competitive walk to help fight breast cancer and give hope to those facing the disease.
