Department of Corrections Presents Special Citation Bars

(Goffstown, NH) New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn presented special citation bars of recognition to 13 officers at the New Hampshire State Prison for Women for their extraordinary actions to save the lives of inmates.

Commissioner Wrenn said, “Had it not been for the prompt, alert, and professional actions of these officers these situations could have resulted in serious harm or even death to the inmates involved.”

“These officers provide the staff, the offender population, and the public with the confidence that our prisons are operated safely and effectively,” Commissioner Wrenn said.

The following citation bars were awarded on May 6, 2015.

• November 22, 2014 attempted inmate hanging: Corrections Officers Henry Charpentier and Prasith Samaluk and Corrections Corporal Preston Schaub were presented with Life Saving citation bars. Corrections Officers Angela Mao and Kristen Lanctot were presented with Team Commendation bars
• December 28, 2014 attempted inmate hanging: Corrections Sergeant Christopher Ward and Corrections Officer Amanda Turcotte were presented with Life Saving citation bars. Corrections Corporal Athena Panas and Corrections Officer Kristin Potito received Team Commendation bars.
• December 30, 2014 attempted inmate hanging. Corrections Sergeant Christopher Ward and Corrections Corporal Athena Panas received the Life Saving citation bars. Corrections Sergeant Nicole Plante, Corrections Corporal Michael Farrell, and Former Corrections Captain Michelle Goings received Team Commendation citation bars.
• December 30, 2014 attempted inmate self-strangulation at Catholic Medical Center. Corrections Officer Ema Donlagic was awarded the Life Saving citation bar. She had been on the security detail for the inmate who attempted to take her life earlier that day at the prison.

The Department of Corrections awards five special medals and citation bars for staff that go above and beyond the call of the duty. Those are the Medal of Honor, The Life Saving citation bar, the Honorable Service bar, the Line of Duty bar, and the Team Commendation bar.
