Department of Corrections Awarded Federal Grant to Help Promote Safe Communities
(Concord, NH) The New Hampshire Executive Council authorized the Department of Corrections to accept a federal grant in the amount of $34,748.00 to support the New Hampshire Safe Streets Task Force (SSTF) and the New England High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. The grant, from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, covers the salaries and expenses of two Department Probation/Parole Officers (PPO’s) to increase officer presence in the City of Manchester through June 30, 2015.
The purpose of the SSTF initiative is a multi-agency effort between the FBI, Manchester Police Department, New Hampshire State Police, and the Department of Corrections Probation/Parole District Office in Manchester to enhance patrols and undercover operations that target violent crime, drugs, weapons, street gangs and intensified apprehension of dangerous fugitives.
This initiative began in 2008 and is funded fully by a federal grant
