Department of Corrections Names New Assistant Commissioner
(Concord, N.H.) New Hampshire Department of Corrections Commissioner William L. Wrenn announced that Director of Medical and Forensic Services Helen Hanks was sworn in as the new Assistant Commissioner. The New Hampshire Executive Council gave unanimous approval to her nomination on September 17, 2014.
Assistant Commissioner Hanks had been Director since May 2011. Prior to that she was the Assistant Director of the Medical/Forensics Division since December 2005. She began with the Department as Social Worker assigned to the New Hampshire State Prison in Concord in October 2003. Assistant Commissioner Hanks has a Master of Science in Management of Health Care from Brandeis University.
The Assistant Commissioner is administratively responsible for overseeing the Division of Community Corrections, the Victim Services Bureau, and the Division of Medical and Forensic Services. She will work in partnership with Commissioner Wrenn the management of 2,726 inmates and over 16,000 offenders on probation and parole.
Commissioner Wrenn said, “Assistant Commissioner Hanks brings with her an array of management experience and knowledge of the Department’s mission and responsibilities. She has assisted in the development and implementation of policies and procedures of evidence-based treatment practices and is a valuable asset to the management team.”
