Since 2005, the month of May has been designated as National Historic Preservation Month. Started as Preservation Week in 1973 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the month is meant to promote historic places and heritage tourism, and to demonstrate the social and economic benefits of historic preservation.
This year the DHR and the Bureau of Historic Sites have partnered to highlight four of NH's historic sites as a way to celebrate Preservation Month. Self-directed activity sheets will be available to download from the DHR website for three unique historic sites around the state: Nansen Ski Jump, Milan; Endicott Rock, Laconia; and Fort Dearborn at Odiorne State Park, Rye.
