FOREST PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION
Protection and conservation of our forest resource is a key statutory responsibility of our agency. In our Declaration of Purpose (RSA 227-G:1) it states, in part: "It is hereby recognized and declared that the public welfare of this state requires the maintenance, protection, conservation, multiple use, and rehabilitation of forests for the social, economic, and environmental benefits that result from a diverse forest cover."
Reducing the incidence and severity of wildfires, detecting and managing outbreaks of damaging forest insects and diseases, enforcement of laws and rules to protect the forest resource, and conserving important lands for rare and exemplary natural beauty and ecological value are all examples of how we work to achieve this goal.
