Community Resources

An important part of accomplishing the division's mission is by working closely with the state's towns, cities and communities on tree and forest related issues. Programs such as the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA, and the U.S. Forest Service's Urban and Community Forestry program are administered at the state level by our division.

We work closely with town select boards, city councils, conservation commissions, and public work departments on tree health issues, town forest advice, technical assistance after tree-damaging events such as ice and wind storms, and suggestions on what, where and how to plant trees in an urban landscape. In the realm of forest protection, we work closely with community fire departments and police departments in the prevention and control of wildfires and the investigation and enforcement of forest protection laws.
