2011 Artists' Workshops

May 12, 2011:

Approaching Galleries
10am – 12noon: Presenter Sarah Chaffee, Gallery Director

In this workshop led by Sarah Chaffee of McGowan Fine Art, learn how to prepare a high quality artist’s package, including a biography, artist statement, articles, retail price list and digital images.  Ms. Chaffee will also address how to research and approach galleries, the ins and outs of contracts, and how to promote yourself to the press.

Pricing Your Work: Art or Science?
3 – 5pm: Presenter Gary Chabot, ProfitPoint Business and Finance Counseling

In this workshop attendees will explore the facts, fiction and mysteries of pricing works of art.  Is it all about the numbers?  Is it all guess work?  How do your perceptions of value differ with other buyers and sellers of art?  Learn how “price point” passion and real world economics mix it up in the world of art and business.

Perfect Pitch: How to Introduce Yourself and Your Work
November 30
9:30am – 12noon: Presenters: Adam Blue, Sarah Chaffee, Mary Harding

If a stranger asks you to describe what you do, can you answer the question in two minutes or less?  More importantly, is your answer so interesting that they want to know more?  Come to this hands-on workshop and learn how to write a succinct summary suitable for gallery introductions, Facebook entries or artist statements.  Presenters Sarah Chaffee of McGowan Fine Art, Adam Blue of the AVA Gallery and Mary Harding of the George Marshall Store at the York Historical Society will give an insider’s view of their experiences with artists and successive presentations.  After some pointers and suggestions, participants will write their own pitch and then share with the group for constructive feedback.
