Fellow: Maureen Mills, Ceramic Artist, Portsmouth
Maureen Mills completed her Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Drawing in 1987 at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, NE after completing a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry at Knox College in Galesburg, IL. She moved to Portsmouth in 1987 and has operated an open studio at Strawbery Banke Museum with her husband Steven Zoldak ever since. Mills has been a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen since 1989. She is the current Ceramics Department Chair at the NH Institute of Art where she has been both full time faculty and adjunct faculty. In addition to teaching at the Institute, she has also taught workshops in Japan and locally here in New England. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of Studio Potter since 2007 and Acting Treasurer since 2009.
Mills has an extensive list of shows and exhibits across the country, currently exhibiting in Iowa City at the Yunomi Invitational at AKAR Design. She has been honored with many awards and grants over the years including the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s $30,000 Artist Advancement Grant, won Best in Clay at a juried exhibition at Colby Sawyer College and Best Collaboration Award with David Little at the Living With Crafts Exhibit at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen’s Fair.
