Accurate public health surveillance depends on accurate data collection and analysis. In order to evaluate trends across space and time it is critical to collect data using nationally consistent case definitions and standardized methods. To conduct environmental public-health tracking, health data must be compared with other information such as environmental hazard data, exposure data, and other data on risk factors. This rich collection of health data allows the Tracking Network to develop new surveillance tools in collaboration with external stakeholders in order to better assess health trends across the State.
