New Bridge Opening, Old One Closing in Portsmouth over US Route 1 Bypass
Stark St. Bridge Opening and Woodbury Ave. Bridge Closing on 10/29 for Replacement

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces the planned closure of the Woodbury Avenue Bridge over the US Route 1 Bypass on Monday, October 29, 2018 at 9:30 am after the morning commute.  The Woodbury Avenue Bridge will be closed until November of 2019 while the existing 1949 bridge is demolished and a new bridge is constructed in its place.  Traffic will be detoured around the bridge via detour signs.

Also, on the morning of October 29th, the new Stark Street Bridge over the US Route 1 Bypass will open to traffic. This bridge replacement project began with the closing of the old bridge on January 29, 2018.

In order to allow for the demolition of the Woodbury Avenue Bridge over the US Route 1 Bypass, the US Route 1 Bypass will be closed to both northbound and southbound traffic for a 48-hour period, from Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 7:00 am until Monday, November 5th at 7:00 am.  During this time period, traffic will be detoured around the Route 1 Bypass.

This multiple bridge replacement project includes, in succession, the replacement of the Stark Street Bridge and the Woodbury Avenue Bridge over the US Route 1 Bypass. E.D Swett, Inc. of Concord, New Hampshire is the general contractor for the $7.95 million two bridge project, which has a final completion date of November 2019.
