2017 Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality Program Application Period Begins
Reimbursement for Transportation Projects That Improve Air Quality

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces the start of the 2017 application cycle for the Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality (CMAQ) program. The CMAQ program is a federally funded reimbursement program that provides up to 80% of funds for projects that improve air quality by reducing the amount of vehicular emissions. There is approximately $13.5 million in federal funding available for this round.

Examples of CMAQ projects include: Transit investments, signal coordination, intersection improvements, park and ride facilities, intelligent transportation systems, and non-recreational bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

The application process is broken into three distinct and mandatory steps.

  1. Submission of a Letter of Interest (LOI)
  2. Attendance at a mandatory pre-application informational meeting hosted by the Department
  3. Submission of the CMAQ application

Key Dates:

  • June 12, 2017: Application cycle announced and guidance document released.
  • July 7, 2017: Letters of Interest due to NHDOT by 4:00pm.
  • July - August: Mandatory Municipally Managed Project Workshops to be scheduled at various locations.
  • September 2017: Completed applications due to NHDOT.

The application and date for submission will be available in July after the letter of interest submission date.
