New Hampshire Archeology Month 2017

April is New Hampshire Archeology Month, and the New Hampshire Archeological Society, in partnership with the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, has a calendar of events taking place during the month of April, 2017.

The purpose of Archeology Month is to generate local interest in archeology, and inspire the public to become engaged in an array of activities, presentations, and demonstrations that are offered around the state throughout the month.

This year, hands-on activities will be offered at the University of New Hampshire's Open Archaeology Day, featuring activities such as flint knapping, food sampling, mock excavations, and atlatl throwing, as well as at a pre-contact Native American ceramics workshop led by a ceramics expert at the State Archaeology Lab in Concord.

Along with hands-on demonstrations, lectures will take place throughout the state on a vast array of topics and geographic locations, including Nicaraguan ceramics, Russian bathhouses, underwater investigations in Mexico, and mills on New Hampshire's Lamprey River.

New Hampshire Archeology Month 2017 is sponsored by the New Hampshire Archeological Society, the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum, Strawbery Banke Museum, Landmark Archaeology, Inc., Independent Archaeological Consulting, LLC, and Monadnock Archaeological Consulting, LLC.

A complete listing of the events during the month can be found at http://www.nhas.org/archmth.html.
