Paving Work on Maplewood Avenue in Portsmouth
Followed by Partial Opening of Maplewood Ave. Bridge

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces upcoming temporary roadway closures are planned for the completion of paving operations on Maplewood Avenue near the Route 1 Bypass in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and the upcoming opening of the Maplewood Avenue Bridge to westbound traffic only. This work is associated with the replacement of the Maplewood Avenue Bridge.

The paving work will take place on Friday, November 6, 2015, beginning at approximately 7:00 am. Impacts to motorists will include the closure of Maplewood Avenue between Dennett St and the Route 1 Bypass, and the closure of the Route 1 Bypass northbound on and off ramps to Maplewood Ave. Motorists are asked to utilize Market St and Woodbury Ave to bypass the area during this closure. The paving work is anticipated to be completed by 5:00pm.

Following the completion of paving on November 6, the Maplewood Avenue Bridge will be permanently opened to westbound traffic (toward Woodbury Avenue). Once the bridge is opened, westbound Maplewood Avenue traffic will no longer be permitted to make left hand turns onto the Route 1 Bypass northbound on-ramp. Eastbound traffic (toward downtown Portsmouth) will remain on the current detour configuration and will not be allowed to pass over the Maplewood Avenue Bridge until a later date.

In the event of rain on November 6, this work will be postponed to the next available work day.

ED Swett of Concord, New Hampshire is the general contractor for this $3.9 million project, which is replacing the Maplewood Avenue Bridge over the Route 1 Bypass.
