Spaulding Turnpike Northbound Traffic Shift in Newington
Northbound Exit 2 to be Closed Permanently to Traffic

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces a planned northbound traffic shift on the Spaulding Turnpike in Newington will take place on the night of Sunday, July 19, 2015. The traffic shift will allow construction to continue on the widening of the new northbound lanes from Exit 1 to Exit 3.

Beginning south of Exit 1 in Newington and continuing north to Exit 4, the traffic lanes will be shifted to the west and will travel under the new Woodbury Avenue Bridge. This shift will take place after 9:00 pm on July 19. The Exit 3 northbound on-ramp will remain open during the traffic shift. Traffic delays during this shift should be anticipated. Electronic message boards, NH State Police, and additional signs will be in place to alert motorists to the work zone. A speed reduction to 40 MPH will be strictly enforced.

With this traffic shift, the northbound Exit 2 will be closed permanently to all traffic. Fox Run Road will eventually have a cul-de-sac turnaround constructed, allowing access from Woodbury Avenue only.

The Exit 3 northbound off-ramp is under construction and should be open to traffic in October, providing a full interchange for Woodbury Avenue at that time.

This work is part of the Spaulding Turnpike improvement project in Newington-Diver that began in 2012.
