Drainage Replacement on Main Street in Newport
Periodic Traffic Delays and Restricted Parking

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces planned drainage improvement work along the south side of Main Street in Newport will require periodic traffic delays and a temporary loss of parking.

This work is scheduled to begin Monday, July 13, 2015, weather permitting, and to be completed in early September 2015. Although work will proceed as quickly as possible, this project will be slowed due to buried utilities.

The drainage replacement will begin just north of the bridge over the Sugar River and end near the front of Sugar River Bank, just past the "Little Common." There are approximately 800 feet of pipe and seven existing catch basins that will be replaced. Upgrades to the drainage system will include installing additional catch basins.

Parking in the section with the divided median (from the Little Common to just north of Harrington's Jewelers) will be restricted to "No Parking" during work hours. Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian traffic.

The NHDOT's Highway Maintenance District 2, along with rented equipment, will be performing the work, which has an estimated cost of $128,000.
