New Hampshire, Vermont And Maine To Develop Advanced Regional Traffic Management System

Motorists traveling throughout northern New England will soon benefit by the latest technologies that will provide timely and seamless information on traffic incidents, congestion, highway construction, and weather.

State Departments of Transportation in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine have contracted with Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) of San Antonio, Texas on the development of a cost-effective, regional Advanced Transportation System and Traveler Information System. The system includes three major components:

1) An Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) that will include an Event Management Module, monitoring and control of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) field devices, provide automated incident response scenarios that will streamline notification, detection and verification of a incidents, and provide a robust performance management system. The ATMS will create a single platform to allow for regional collaboration on incident response and data sharing.

2) A Regional Traveler Information System (TIS) that will provide a traveler information website and email/text alerts subscription service, and;

3) A “Data Fusion Hub”, which will facilitate the exchange of information between the ATMS, the private sector, the TIS, and regional partners and stakeholders.

Design on the new system begins immediately, with a scheduled release date for the new system of January 2016.
