Night Work on Route 1 Bypass in Portsmouth
Removal of Islington Street Bridge Over Route 1 Bypass

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation announces planned night work associated with the removal of the Islington Street Bridge over the US Route 1 Bypass.

This bridge demolition work will take place on the nights of Sunday, May 18 and Monday, May 19, between the hours of 7:00 pm and 500 am each night. The night work will require temporary traffic pattern changes on the Route 1 Bypass. Subsequent nights will be scheduled, as needed, to remove the remainder of the bridge.

Motorists traveling through the work zone during these time periods should anticipate two-way traffic shifted to one side of the Bypass between the Greenleaf Avenue and Borthwick Avenue intersections. Floodlights will be used to light the work area.

ED Swett, Inc., of Concord, New Hampshire is the prime contractor for the $4.3 million project, which is scheduled to be completed in September 2015.
