Median Barrier Installation in Manchester and Bedford
To Prevent Median Crossovers on Sections of NH 101, I-293 and I-93

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) announces work is beginning this week on a safety improvement project in Bedford and Manchester that involves the installation of median barrier to prevent vehicle crossovers at various locations along a six mile section on NH Route 101, I-293, and I-93. The work includes bridge pier protection at the Plummer Road, Willow Street, and Huse Road underpasses.

The project includes removing 4,000 linear feet of existing guardrail and installing 22,000 linear feet of new guardrail, from Plummer Hill Road on NH Route 114 to the I-293/I-93 split. I-293 guardrail installation will occur in various areas where there is potential for vehicle cross over type accidents. It also includes one section on I-93, just north of Island Pond Road. In addition, 1,100 linear feet of 54-inch high concrete barrier will be installed at the bridge overpasses to protect the bridge piers, replacing older, shorter concrete barrier.

Daytime work requiring lane closures will be at off-peak hours and will not impact traffic. Any work that cannot be accomplished during the day will be completed at night. Message boards, traffic signs and police officers will be used to alert the traveling public of current work zones.

Construction of this safety project will be completed by August 22, 2014. Continental Paving Inc. of Londonderry, New Hampshire is the general contractor for the $1.9 million project.
