Creating a New MX Project

Before starting work on the project a directory must be created on the CAD/D network drive to store the data.

Creating the MX Project

  1. Start MX. The MX Project Start Up splash screen looks like this in the SS4 version of MX:
mx project start up dialog box
  2. Select New Project from the splash screen. It's the button in the top left corner.
  3. Select the Default MX Project Settings, choose either US_Imperial OR US_metric.
  4. Browse to the project directory.
  5. Enter the new project name in the format "Town name and Project Number" such as Grafton 12803.
  6. Check the Edit Project Settings checkbox.
  7. Check the String Naming Convention checkbox.
  8. Click OK to advance to the Project Settings panel.
  9. On the Project Settings panel, select the System Parameters tab and set the Default Drawing Scale to that of the project.
  10. If a model file already exists. Do not overwrite the model file. Select No on the warning message.

Imperial Project Default Settings

Note: If you are using the NHDOT MX workspace, projects are created with Imperial units by default. If you have a metric project, then you need to edit the project settings. This can be done by selecting the Edit Project Settings checkbox on the project selection panel (before the project is opened). Then select the Project Files tab. In the Directories subtab, make the necessary changes.
