Alternative Earthwork Strategies

Alternative earthworks strategies can be used to define compound or specialized slope criteria. Numerous options exist beyond standard cut/fill combinations such as interfacing to a constant offset or elevation. It also provides the capability to develop slope criteria that do not currently exist in the macros such as options for 11/2:1 slopes or special ditch configurations.

To develop an alternative strategy the components of that strategy must already exist. Many of the standard styles are available. There are often instances where the standard needs to be modified for a specific project. In those cases, the user must create the individual components and store them in the project directory. Start the process by selecting the Alternative Strategy option under the desired cut/fill graphic. The panel below will appear.

Editing or Creating Components

An earthworks style can be edited by first including it in one of the zones (cut left, cut right, fill left, or fill right) on the Assign Earthwork Style and Strategy panel. Do this by selecting the ellipsis button next to the style name. The panel shown below will appear.

Select the existing style that most closely represents the needed style and hit OK. Next, select the Edit... button to alter the style.

If Fix Element is not checked the wizard will apply the slope specified until an interface is found. When the box is checked, the height & width parameters are used to limit the slope. When editing this panel note that the Fix Element box is not immediately available. Neither are the Height/Width criteria. Change the number of elements from 1 to 2, change the Element dropdown menu to show Element 1 again and then reset the number of elements to 1. This will resolve the problem.
