Importing Boring Data

First create a text file from your collection device in X Y Z BORING# tab delimited format file, as follows:

1350899 131467 1287.9 B112

Then manipulate this file using Microsoft Excel to be in X Y BORING# tab deliminated format which will prepare the data for import. This file will need to be imported twice using different options for the second run.

In MicroStation, set the desired Text Attributes before importing the data file. Next, from the Tools menu, select Tool Boxes > XYZ Text to get the XYZ Toolbar. Use the Import Coordinates tool located on the far right of this toolbar.

From the Import Coordinates panel, select the following options for the first import.

IMPORT: TEXT
ORDER: XYZT
VIEW: (current view)
TEXT: (empty)

Click the Process button to import the boring coordinate text.

In MicroStation, select the BORSYM cell from the BR_BORE.CEL cell library to be the Active Cell and set the Cell Scale (usually 500 or 600). From the Import Coordinates panel, select the following options for the second import:

IMPORT: CELL
ORDER: XYZ
VIEW: (current view)
CELL: BORSYM

Click the Process button to import the boring locations.

A sucessful outcome will place a standard Boring Symbol at every Boring Location as well as it's corresponding text. The corresponding text will be placed with the CC justification at the Boring location. In order to clean things up, from the Element Selection tool use the Element Type selection and choose the Text option to select the text elements and Move them out of the way.
