Councilor Andru Volinsky

Biography

Executive Councilor Andru Volinsky is a New Hampshire lawyer and advocate. He earned his law degree from George Washington University School of Law in 1980. He was lead counsel in the Claremont School Funding suit and has represented Dover in its efforts to obtain fair funding for its schools. Andru has also volunteered to represent death row inmates throughout the South and before the Supreme Court. He has received a number of awards including the NEA-NH Friend of Education Award and the New Hampshire Civil Liberties Union’s Bill of Rights Award. Andru has been recognized as the Merrimack County Attorney of the Year and has also been recognized as one of the Concord Monitor’s One Hundred People Who Shaped the New Hampshire Century and by NHPR as one of the 25 Most Influential People in the last 25 Years.

Upon taking office, Councilor Volinsky will maintain a reduced case load in his private law practice with the regional law firm of Bernstein Shur where he focuses upon commercial and employment disputes.

Andru and his wife, Amy, live in East Concord. They are very proud of their three grown children who are pursuing careers in public education, social work, and as a member of a cooperatively owned, unionized print shop.

When not working, Andru and Amy volunteer extensively for organizations that include the Friendly Kitchen in Concord and the Manchester Community Health Center. They also raise chickens and alpacas and have climbed all 48 of New Hampshire’s 4,000 footers.
