The principal focus of the New Hampshire Board of Barbering, Cosmetology, and Esthetics is to protect the public health, safety and welfare by regulating the practices of Professional Barbers, Cosmetologists, Estheticians, Manicurists and Tanning. The Board qualifies and licenses individuals and businesses, establishes and enforces administrative rules and laws, and provides information so that the public may make informed decisions.
NOTIFICATION TO ALL SHOPS AND LICENSEES: As of August 20, 2016, estheticians may perform natural nail manicures only with proper training. Temporary permits will be valid for 60 days. Shampoo assistants will no longer require licensure. Persons employed as shampoo assistants in a licensed shop who perform the functions of shampooing, rinsing and removing rollers or perm rods, and rinsing treated or untreated hair are now exempt from licensure. NOTIFICATION TO ALL ESTHETICIANS: As of March 14, 2016, estheticians are not allowed to perform microneedling/dermarolling services. The Board has determined that these services are not within the scope of practice for estheticians. Shop Notification Letter
NOTIFICATION TO ALL TANNING FACILITIES: As of August 1, 2015, tanning facilities are prohibited from tanning persons under the age of 18. Certified Operators shall obtain proof of age from each person using a tanning device. Notification Letter
