NHVH Employee Benefit Committee

The Employee Benefit Committee of the New Hampshire Veterans Home was founded in 2005 and exists to recognize the contributions and enhance the morale of all employees of the New Hampshire Veterans Home.

Organization

The Employee Benefit Committee is made up of approximately 13 staff representatives from each department of the Home. The Committee meets monthly, or more often when needed. Its revenue comes from raffles organized by the Committee, vending machine proceeds, and donations.

Goals

Within the limits of its resources, the Employee Benefit Committee seeks to organize events and coordinate activities throughout the year that will benefit all employees. The Committee does not serve as a "Sunshine Fund" or an emergency fund. It is not able to provide funds for individual employee needs or to underwrite the work of other committees.

Examples of Employee Benefit Committee Activities

  • The major activity of the Employee Benefit Committee is staff recognition during National Nursing Home Week in the month of May. Generally the Committee hosts three special days for employees, such as Western Day, Sports Day, and Tropical Day. The Committee provides special snacks during that week that are made available to workers on all three shifts.
  • Throughout the year the Employee Benefit Committee organizes seasonal theme events such as a summer picnic, "Seven Weeks of Summer (Ice Cream) Treats," Octoberfest, Apples/Apple Cider in September, and drawings at Christmas for gift certificates.
  • The Committee also purchases movie or other tickets at reduced rates and makes them available to all staff at cost.
  • The Committee sponsors "Celebrate Employees Day" and other events that strengthen the bond between residents and staff.
  • The Committee recognizes the retirement of all employees who have worked at the Home for 10 or more years. The employee is given a gift in accordance with the guidelines of the staff retirement policy.
