NH Department of Health and Human Services is looking to train NH residents
who are interested in becoming respite providers.

Respite literally means a time of rest or relief. This free training will enable you to give family caregivers temporary relief from the constant responsibilities of caring for a dependent child or adult. All training and testing of this competency-based curriculum for respite providers is completed online. Upon satisfactory completion of the training, you are then expected to join our pilot program in providing respite to families who have adopted or reunified with children diagnosed with Severe Emotional Disturbance. Through this pilot program, trained respite providers are paid for up to 50 hours of respite services per family at $10.00/hour. Furthermore, the schedule for the training and actual respite services is flexible to compliment the availability of your time as well as the needs of the families. Once the pilot program is complete, you are encouraged to provide respite services to individuals of varying ages and abilities based upon your preferences and the need of local families.

If you would like additional information, please contact Sharon Kaiser at 603-271-4498 or
email SKaiser@dhhs.state.nh.us.

EngAGING NH and the NH State Committee on Aging are pleased to announce that we are soliciting nominations for the annual Joseph D. Vaughan awards.

This is a joint effort to recognize individuals or couples over the age of 60 who demonstrate outstanding leadership or meritorious achievement,  as volunteers, on behalf of New Hampshire’s older citizens. Nominees must be residents of New Hampshire whose volunteer work is in New Hampshire.

A joint committee of EngAGING NH and the NH State Committee on Aging will review all nominations and select one person or a couple from each county to be honored.  All will be invited to participate in a ceremony honoring their accomplishments. The awards ceremony is scheduled for May  8, 2012 in the Executive Council Chambers.  Governor Lynch has traditionally participated in the presentation of the awards as has the family of Joseph Vaughan.
