The Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services recognizes that its primary mission is to increase the capability of the entire New Hampshire Fire and Emergency Medical Services through the application of the best methodologies and techniques in education and practice.

We believe in the achievement of excellence in our services through dedication, teamwork, and open communication.

We are committed to exceeding expectations through the efficient research, development and delivery of all aspects of fire and emergency medical service training, education, and administration.

Director Richard A. Mason oversees the Division of Fire Standards and Training and Emergency Medical Services, a division within the New Hampshire Department of Safety. His duties include overseeing the state’s Fire Academy in Concord, fire training curriculum and certification, as well as oversight of the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. His duties are outlined in state law (RSA 21-P:12-a and RSA 21-P:12-b). The Fire Academy includes an administration/classroom building, 72-bed dormitory, 2-bay fire station (drive through), training ground (2 burn buildings, flashover simulator, and other props), and many mobile props that are used throughout the state. The New Hampshire Fire Academy serves as the Northeast regional training facility for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Personnel.

The current term of the office for Director Mason runs through March 31, 2009.
