Prohibiting Avoidance of Traffic Signals
CHAPTER 265, RULES OF THE ROAD, Traffic Signs, Signals and Markings, Section 265:11-a, Prohibiting Avoidance of Traffic Signals. At any traffic control signal or sign, it shall be unlawful for the driver of a motor vehicle to cut across public or private property at or near the intersection which is not a roadway to avoid the traffic control signal or sign. Any person who violates the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a violation.
- For example, it is unlawful to drive through a gas station or store parking lot because of a traffic back up or red light. Many motorists will drive through private parking lots in an attempt to avoid the traffic signals or signs.
