Sobriety Checkpoint in Holderness
On Saturday June 13, 2009 beginning at 10:00 PM through Sunday June 14, 2009 at 2:00 AM the New Hampshire State Police and the Holderness Police Department conducted a joint Sobriety Checkpoint on Rte 3 in Holderness, just south of the Golden Pond Country Store.
During the checkpoint, law enforcement officers checked approximately 170 vehicles that traveled through the 6 lane stations. The officers explained to the drivers that the sobriety checkpoint was the reason they were being stopped. All drivers that were not impaired continued through the checkpoint after producing their driver’s license and motor vehicle registration to the officers. The operation was conducted safely and did not impede the flow of traffic on Rte 3.
A total of six subjects were arrested in the Sobriety Checkpoint. Four subjects were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, one subject was arrested for Transportation of Alcohol by a minor and one subject was arrested for Transportation and Possession of a Controlled Drug (marijuana) and Open Container.
All arrests were made without incident and all subjects were released with a summons and are scheduled to be arraigned in the Plymouth Court on July 23, 2009 at 8:30 AM.
Based on the high number of impaired drivers arrested during this operation and our commitment to public safety, the New Hampshire State Police and the Holderness Police Department plan on conducting future joint Sobriety Checkpoints in Holderness.
