"Move Over" Law
Governor John H. Lynch will sign HB1235 into law at the Executive Council Chamber at the State House at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008.
The bill strengthens the state's "Move Over" law, which requires motorists to slow down and move away from the scene of roadside incidents, such as motor vehicle stops, crashes and breakdowns.
The bill expands coverage of the "Move Over" law by requiring motorists to respond to blue, red and amber warning lights, which includes tow truck operators and highway crews, as well as police, fire and emergency medical personnel. It is intended to reduce roadside deaths and injuries to emergency personnel and members of the public.
