Operation C.A.R.E. Holiday Weekend Report - Fourth of July
The Operation C.A.R.E. holiday weekend traffic enforcement effort conducted by the State Police has come to a successful conclusion, according to Safety Commissioner John Barthelmes. During the extended holiday period that began on Thursday July 3rd at 12:01 AM and ended Sunday July 6th at midnight, the State Police logged a total of 31 motor vehicle accidents throughout the state.
Troopers also monitored speed through aircraft and radar zones, and worked extra patrols looking for alcohol and drug impaired drivers. Enforcement efforts were enhanced by additional seatbelt enforcement details, and a DWI sobriety checkpoint sponsored by the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency. State Police Colonel Frederick Booth said the Operation C.A.R.E. holiday weekend enforcement effort recorded the following:
- 994 Vehicle stops
- 36 DWI arrests
- 1370 Speed court summonses
- 184 Other court
- 2818 Warnings
- 73 Defective equipment tags
- 1 Commercial vehicle violation
- 5 Seatbelt warnings
- 12 Seatbelt citations
Commissioner Barthelmes states the Department of Safety will continue to operate similar holiday and weekend traffic enforcement efforts to promote and emphasize the importance of highway safety.
